New report exposes scale of Palestine repression at UK schools and workplaces
From Vienna to London, European governments have adopted a unified stance in response to the genocidal bombardment of Gaza by Israel. This involves the condemnation of the Palestinian people’s right to resistance and self-determination and the unequivocal support for Israel. As a result there is active repression of support and solidarity movements for Palestine.

CAGE International notes a 455% increase in the number of cases it has handled since the last upsurge in 2021. Between October and December 2023, CAGE International handled 214 cases, spanning 118 school and college cases, 35 workplace cases, 35 protest and related cases, 13 university cases, and 13 mosque cases. This substantial rise signifies a broad and alarming clampdown on pro-Palestinian activity.

Schools must stop saying they are impartial when they are in fact partial, for Israel. Staff must be allowed to think what they want as long as it abides by the law. We must stop censoring Muslims.

CAGE: “Our casework observations provide evidence of a full-spectrum coordinated attack instigated by right-wing interests, mainstream media, politicians and lobby groups. This represents a wholesale assault on the Freedom of Expression under Article 10 and Right to Privacy under Article 8 of the ECHR.”

 

Key findings of the report include:

– An aggressive and authoritarian response from the government to legitimate activism in support of Palestine.

– A disturbing double standard compared to the government’s responses to the Russia-Ukraine conflict revealing hypocrisy in public spaces, schools, and workplaces.

– The Islamophobic nature of censorship, with 209 out of the 214 cases involving Muslims.

– The weoponizing of PREVENT and PREVENT referrals in suppressing support for Palestine.

– A consistent pattern nationwide across towns and cities, from Newcastle to Portsmouth.

The hostile environment created by the state has incentivised harsh penalties being imposed by the police, schools, universities, central and local government, as well as employers.

Many in the west have dismissed the charges of genocide as an explanation for the various destructive measures that Israel has deployed in Gaza.

While many in the West grapple with an existential anxiety stemming from their belief in a creation without purpose, the unwavering faith of Gazans who have endured every conceivable misery has strongly resonated with those living with the perpetual angst of a meaningless universe.

Despite facing a barrage of bunker-busting missiles and being deprived of every material comfort, their ability to patiently bear calamities by showing gratitude for God’s blessings has galvanized millions of people to decry Israel’s genocide, express solidarity with Gazans and inquire deeper into the beliefs which foster such a mindset.

Despite the daily horrors in Gaza and the immense trauma Muslims are experiencing globally, the Palestinians’ plight has awoken a spiritual and moral awakening in the West which could inspire a unique cultural revolution.

As a result, internet searches for the Quran have spiked and many non-Muslims have taken to online forums to parse through its passages on salvation and redemption to make sense of why Palestinians do not dread mortality and exude such optimism when their lives have been shattered.

Not only are Palestinians acknowledging the mental health benefits of faith in a transcendent reality which many implicitly desire, they are appreciating the intrinsic value of being God-conscious in a materialistic world and turning to Islam to anchor their psychological well-being.

He judged them on nine criteria – the strength of their economies, internal cohesion, their political systems, levels of corruption, natural resources, human resources, the strength of their militaries, international alliances, independence, global influence and Muslim influence. Using the above criteria he came up with a Top 10, and concluded that Turkey comes first.

This is of course a completely unscientific and subjective judgement and please feel free to disagree. But we hope it might spark off a bit of a debate.
