Funded primarily by the Al-Maktoum Foundation, it is the first HE establishment of its kind in Scotland, promoting multiculturalism and greater understanding while building bridges between communities through its promotion of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies. Its Patron, His Highness Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance of the United Arab Emirates, officially opened The College – originally known as Al-Maktoum Institute – in May 2002. A total of 175 students from more than 30 countries have graduated from the College’s contemporary, postgraduate degree programs. The Academic Training Program (ATP) and Summer School educational programs were introduced in 2003 and demand continues to grow for these. Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA) awarded and credit-rated courses started in 2014 and SQA accredited certificates were also offered for ATP students for the first time in 2015. With the aim of running MSc programs in the specialized area of Islamic Finance, a new collaboration agreement was agreed with the University of Dundee in 2016. The College is proud to be part of the community in Dundee. In 2009 it opened its Community Fund to help support groups and charities in the city and surrounding areas. • MSc Islamic Finance • HNC/Diploma in Management & Leadership • HNC/HND in Business • Advanced Diploma in Arabic Language • Advanced Diploma in Islamic Studies • Certificate in Arabic Language • Diploma in Arabic Language • Introductory Certificate in Arabic Language • Professional Diploma in Islamic Economics & Finance Contacts Address: Al-Maktoum College of Higher Education, 124 Blackness Road, Dundee, UK Phone: +44 1382 908070 Email: admissions@almcollege.ac.uk Website: http://almcollege.ac.uk/

Some 20 students from different European study programs and from a wide range of backgrounds, including Muslims, Jews and Christians, participated in the first summer school on “Jerusalem and the Three Religions” took place at the Protestant Theological University of the Netherlands (PThU) in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. This course was part of a unique academic partnership between The Schechter Institute of Jewish Studies and PThU. During the week there were lectures and seminars about the history and archaeology of Jerusalem, holy places in Jerusalem and the relationship between Jews, Christians and Muslims in the city. Prof. Doron Bar and Dr. Tamar Kadari, SIJS president and dean respectively, were both lecturing in Amsterdam. “What unites the students is the fascination for the city. Jerusalem is not an empty theme,” said Dr. Lieve Teugels, Lecturer in Jewish Studies and Semitics (PThU), in her welcome speech. “I know that all the conversations and discussions this week will be conducted with respect for each other and each other’s convictions.” The summer school, supported by an Erasmus+ grant awarded by the European Union to the two institutions in November 2018, explores a city holy to three religions. The course provided students with a unique opportunity to engage in conversation with students and professors from all over the world. The school focuses on biblical history and archaeology; the religious significance of Jerusalem in Judaism, Christianity and Islam; the meanings of pilgrimage; the architecture of holy sites; and the impact of contemporary politics on the city… Source: The Schechter Institutes
