The German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA) / Leibniz-Institut für Globale und Regionale Studien is an independent social-science research institute based in Hamburg. It analyses political, social and economic developments in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East, and links this knowledge to questions of global significance. It combines region specific analysis with innovative comparative research on accountability and participation, growth and development, peace and security, and power and ideas. The GIGA seeks to appoint a Research Fellow (65%).
Applications are invited for a 65% position with a contract of 36 months, starting on 1 November 2020. The position is designed for further professional qualification as defined in § 2 WissZeitVG (Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act).
The successful candidate will work in the project Religion for Peace: Identifying Conditions and Mechanisms of Interfaith Peace, funded by DFG (the German Research Foundation). The three-year project will study and identify global conditions of interfaith peace by analyzing a unique global dataset as well as by conducting qualitative fieldwork and behavioral experiments.
We seek a candidate who is interested in working in an interdisciplinary research environment, very good at analyzing cross-country data and willing to conduct fieldwork.
The Research Fellow would become a member of the GIGA Doctoral Program. Other part-time options will be considered, if so desired by the successful candidate. Diversity and the reconciliation of work and family life are of great importance to the institute.
