Supporting Young Muslim Girls
If being a young Muslim is hard, being a young Muslim woman is especially difficult. Muslim women who wear the hijab are on the front lines of deflecting attacks against Islam due to their visibility. So much of the Islamophobic narrative surrounding Islam today focuses on stereotypes regarding the role of women – all of which can create doubt in their faith. When the stereotypes they see and hear in the media are reinforced at their mosques and other religious spaces, this doubt and feeling of betrayal only grows.
Yaqeen Institute supports young Muslim girls and women by releasing articles, videos, Q&A’s, infographics, and other materials specifically about topics related to women and women’s rights, including:
- Sayedaty Series: Inspirational Muslim Women:
the goal of the series is to honor the incredible women of our past and present, while inspiring contribution to society.
- Behind the Veil: The Intersection of Religion, Politics & Culture:
A live webinar on the topic of hijab and identity.
- Women’s Inclusivity Talk Toolkit:
A complete guide to a khutbah addressing the issue of women’s inclusion in religious spaces.
- A number of publications on topics surrounding women in Islam, such as
– “Women in Islamic Law: Examining Five Prevalent Myths “,
– “Islam and Violence Against Women: A Critical Look at Domestic Violence and Honor Killings in the Muslim Community”,
– and “‘We Used to Have No Regard for Women’: Gender Equity & the Advent of Islam”.
