Bradford Mosque launches monthly clean-up drive for community

An innovative initiative by Bradford Mosque to engage the community in environmental responsibility through monthly clean-up drives

Members of JTI Southfield Square Mosque in Bradford have taken the initiative to give back to their community by launching a local clean-up effort. Around 15 volunteers—ranging from children to elders—gathered outside the mosque in the Manningham area to take part in their first-ever litter pick.

The group worked together to tidy the area surrounding the mosque, showing their commitment to maintaining a clean neighborhood. Shaykh Syed Ahsan Shah, director of JTI, emphasized the mosque’s broader community role. “At JTI Southfield Square, we aim to serve the community in different ways. Whether it is through the community fridge or cleaning our local area,” he said. “Manningham is our town and we should aim to keep it tidy.”

The litter pick marks the beginning of a regular community initiative. Volunteers will meet on the first Saturday of every month at JTI Southfield Square Mosque to continue the clean-up effort. Families from the area are encouraged to join and take part in this positive and innovative movement.
