The meeting of chairman of the European Muslim Leaders Council with the Council of Europe’s Special Representative on anti-Semitism, anti-Muslim hatred, and all forms of religious intolerance

Imam Yahya Pallavicini, chairman of the European Muslim Leaders Council (EULEMA), met with Irene Kitsou Milonas, the Council of Europe’s Special Representative on antisemitism, anti-Muslim hatred, and all forms of religious intolerance, in Strasbourg on 29 September 2026. During the meeting, Pallavicini presented EULEMA’s action plan, which includes initiatives addressing discrimination against Muslim women, a proposed European conference on Islamophobia in 2027, and theological and interreligious training for young Muslims.

EULEMA also announced that it had received participatory status within the Conference of International NGOs of the Council of Europe, providing a framework for the organization to engage with the institution’s civil-society processes. The recognition marks a step in EULEMA’s efforts to strengthen Muslim representation in European institutional discussions.

The engagement continued in Brussels on 1 October, when Pallavicini participated in the European External Action Service’s Autumn School on Human Rights and EU International Relations. He spoke about the relationship between freedom of religion, human rights, international relations with the Muslim world, security, and citizenship.

These developments highlight EULEMA’s efforts to bring Muslim perspectives into European discussions on religious freedom, discrimination, and interreligious relations.
