80th Annual Meeting of the Association for the Sociology of Religion
About The Event
Date: August 11-13, 2018
Venue: Hotel Sofitel Philadelphia, Philadelphia, PA, USA
Theme: Strengthening Weak Ties to other Sociological Subdisciplines
The sociology of religion is sometimes accused of being isolated by relatively low levels of mutual influence between itself and other sociological subdisciplines. Assuming that disciplines and subdisciplines benefit from exposure to alternative schools of thought, frames of reference, concepts, social networks, data, and theories, the 2018 program theme aims to strengthen our theoretical and social ties to other sociological subdisciplines.
Our focus will be on approaches, theories, data, and insights developed outside of the sociology of religion to help explain religious phenomena or use aspects of religion to explain non-religious social phenomena. Some examples might be religion AND . . . adolescent development, crime, culture, demography, economics, environment, family, gender, immigration, inequality, aging, health, mental health, race, rural sociology, sexualities, theory, etc.
