Semester Two of the Part-time Hawza Program

Enrollment for Semester Two of the Part-time Hawza Program starting 6th March 2017 to 27th July 2017 is now OPEN!

Entry-level modules available for enrollment are

• Introduction to Baqir al Sadr’s Legal theory,
• Introduction to Muslim Mysticism,
• Post-Prophet & Ummayad History
• and Hadith Sciences

which can all be studied either in-house, at the Institute, virtually online or virtually offline at any time and location worldwide. Entry on these modules requires an ability to read basic Arabic.

The Al-Mahdi Institute’s Four-Year Hawza Program is an intensive and modified version of the Hawza program that is taught in the traditional Muslim educational centers of Qum and Najaf. The Hawza Program offers students a thorough grounding in reading, analyzing and contextualizing classical Arabic texts, with a great emphasis placed on the use of modern theories in the study of religion, theology and language. Furthermore, unlike other centers of Muslim learning, this curriculum is delivered entirely in English and Arabic.

The central goals of the Four-Year Hawza Program are two-fold. Firstly, it aims to produce innovative thinkers who are capable of contributing to Muslim thought through engagement with Ulama and Traditional centers of Muslim learning, as exemplified in the Hawza’s and Madaris of Qum, Najaf, Medina, Cairo, and national and international centers of academia. Secondly, it aims to continue to produce traditionally grounded and conscientious scholars who are capable of informing media, governmental and non-governmental institutions, and grass-roots communities by portraying and advancing the human face of Islam through the teachings of Prophet Muhammad and his impeccable progeny.

The Institute provides various options for students to access the Hawza Program. Applicants can choose to study the modules in-house, where they can also apply for a scholarship to contribute towards their tuition fees & on-campus accommodation. Alternatively, applicants can opt to join as a virtual student, and receive access to the diverse range of modules offered by the Hawza Program online, at any time and from any location around the world.
