The School of Historical, Philosophical and Religious Studies at Arizona State University is seeking a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor of Religious Studies with expertise in Islamic and classical Arabic traditions. The area of specialization is open but the preferred candidate will have broad training in their field of expertise. Relevant fields may include Islamic ethics, sufism, science, environment, governance, law, theology and/or other spheres of Islamic thought, practice and culture.
Ideally, the candidate’s scholarship and interests will transcend borders of academic disciplines and engage with diverse religious, cultural, and geographical worlds and practices. The regional area is open but candidates with expertise in the Middle East, North Africa, and/or Asia are desired. The successful candidate will be a scholar of Islam who can both fill our program’s gap in the study of the classical Islamic and Arabic traditions, and add to our faculty’s expertise in the anthropology of Islam and Islam in the contemporary world.
