Hampden-Sydney College, Department of History, invites applications for a tenure-track full-time position in Islamic World or Middle Eastern history prior to 1600, with a preference for medieval history. Subfields and specialties are open, though candidates with an interest in the history of Islam and/or trade and commerce are particularly encouraged to apply. Teaching responsibilities include a two-semester sequence in Middle Eastern history and upper-division classes in the candidate’s specialty. The successful candidate would be expected to participate in the college’s Global Cultures program.
