Call for Applications
Application Deadline: April 19, 2020
The University of Cambridge is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research and Outreach Associate to design and conduct original research into Islamic art, aesthetics and/or material culture in the Centre of Islamic Studies, to begin in September 2020. The post is a three-year, fixed-term position.
The postdoctoral associate will be involved in researching Arabic and Persian manuscripts in the collections of the University Library and The Fitzwilliam Museum’s Founder’s Library. Expert knowledge of the two languages and Islamic codicology are, therefore, two essential requisites. Academic projects and publications that stem from this research are expected in the duration of the post. At the Centre of Islamic Studies, we hope to collaborate with colleagues on outreach activities at our partner-institution, the Alwaleed Centre at the University of Edinburgh. A potential collaborative activity could come in the form of a joint exhibition on manuscripts in Cambridge’s collections and special collections housed in Edinburgh’s University Library.
The successful candidate must have been awarded their PhD or be in the final stages of completion of their PhD by the date of employment. They will demonstrate genuine interest in the work of the Centre of Islamic Studies; and demonstrate outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and flawless spoken and written English. Applicants should have the right to work in the UK.
The deadline for applications is midnight on 19 April 2020.
