Application Deadline: July 31, 2020
In the Department of Islamic Studies at the Seminar for Languages and Cultures of the Middle East at the University of Heidelberg, there is one as soon as possible W 3 professorship for “Islamic Studies: Arabic” (successor to Prof. Dr. Susanne Enderwitz) to occupy. The professorship focuses on the religion and intellectual history of the Islamic world.
Applicants are expected to represent the full range of the non-confessional subject of Islamic Studies and to have extensive experience in dealing with Arabic scholarship and literature through excellent publications. Knowledge of Persian is also particularly desirable. Participation in interdisciplinary, cross-departmental, faculty and university-wide interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary structures in research and teaching is expected, especially in the university-wide master’s program in Middle East Studies.
The professorship does not have its own equipment, but participates in the institute’s resources. It is also suitable for young researchers with a doctorate; in this case, she will be filled as a tenure track professorship (W1). Tenure track professorships at Heidelberg University are generally initially limited to six years and, after a positive tenure evaluation, are permanently transferred to a W3 professorship. The evaluation statute can be accessed on the homepage of the Personnel Department (http://www.uni-heidelberg.de/tenure-track).
We're always eager to hear from you.
