As part of the city’s series of events commemorating the 200thanniversary of the Peterloo Massacre, this symposium will explore links between religious and political radicalism in historical and contemporary contexts. How has religion motivated radical political action, from 19th century reformers to contemporary political protest? What makes a political or religious action radical, and who defines it as such? What are the differences, if any, between political and religious radicalism?

This event is free but registration is required. Presenters from the UK, continental Europe, and the US will explore the key questions raised by the intersections of religion and radicalism in a variety of contexts. Professor Jeffrey Kaplan will present the keynote talk at the end of the day:
