Call for Proposals
Proposal Submission Deadline: September 14, 2018
Following the success of its 2016/17 Workshop Grants scheme, BRAIS will be offering two further grants of up to £1000 in 2018.
The grants aim to provide opportunities to develop original research ideas in any area of Islamic Studies, to disseminate and increase the impact of current cutting-edge research, and to engage early career academics and post-graduate students based in the UK and the Republic of Ireland.
BRAIS is committed to enhancing academic excellence and supporting high quality research in Islamic Studies. All applications will therefore be judged on the academic quality and significance of the proposal.
All documentation should be submitted in .pdf or .doc files to brais@ed.ac.uk by 5 pm GMT, Friday 14th September 2018.
The winners of the 2016/17 BRAIS Workshops Grant Scheme were:
1. ‘Seeing is Believing: Knowledge and Miracles in Islamic Thought’ to be run by Dr Harith Bin Ramli (SOAS) and Dr Ayman Shihadeh (SOAS).
2. ‘On the Importance of Being Islamic: Shahab Ahmed’s What is Islam? and the future of Islamic Studies’ to be run by Dr Yossef Rapoport (QMUL).
3. ‘Producing Knowledge on Islam in Europe: Epistemology, Methodology, Reflexivity’ to be run by Hira Amin (Cambridge), Margot Dazey (Cambridge), Alyaa Ebbiary (SOAS), Christopher Moses (Cambridge) and Mathilde Zederman (SOAS).
