The Women’s Islamic Initiative in Spirituality and Equality (WISE)

The Women’s Islamic Initiative in Spirituality and Equality, which is called WISE for short, is one of the institutions that has been established to defend the rights of Muslim women and change wrong attitudes about women’s rights in Islam. The extent of the activities of this institution has gone beyond the borders of America and has become global.

WISE is a social justice movement lead by Muslim women whose mission is to reclaim and defend women’s rights based on Islam and to enable Muslim women to have an active participation in creating justice and prosperity in the society.

The management of this organization, which is located in New York, is under the responsibility of Mrs. Daisy Khan.

Mrs. Khan is a media commentator on issues such as Muslim women’s rights, Islam in America, Islamophobia and violent extremism. She was included in Time magazine’s “100 Most Influential People” list, Huffington Post listed her as one of the “Top 10 Women Religious Leaders”, and More magazine described her as “The Link between Mediterranean Islam and the West”.

Mrs. Daisy Khan launched the Muslim Leaders of Tomorrow (MLT) program in 2004 and WISE in 2006 in order to empower young people and women who will have an important impact on the future generations.

The aims of these two initiatives are to empower Muslim women and youth to train committed leaders who speak with a correct and humane approach. These people will become the voices of righteousness in the Muslim community.

According to the official website of this organization, WISE programs deal with the most important social issues related to women in the society. The influential programs of this organization are focused on these programs and activities: artistic initiatives, research articles, conferences, educational publications, E-learning platforms, interfaith partnerships.
