Establishment of “Al-Mahdi” Shia Association at Arizona State University

The Shia Student Association at Arizona State University was founded with the intention of teaching Islamic values to students and creating a safe space and educating the University community.

This faith-based association, which is called “Al-Mahdi”, was established last semester in order to educating the academic community of Arizona State University (ASU) about Islam and the Shia religion.

Hajer Rahee, a senior student studying molecular biosciences and biotechnology and anthropology, is the president and founder of the Al-Mahdi Association. Coming back to ASU following the pandemic, she felt somewhat alone and lacked a sense of community around her, so she started the club to cultivate a safe space for students like herself.
